Canazei is a very attractive, lively roadside village set below well forested slopes. Canazei is the only major resort in the Fassa Valley truly located on the Sella Ronda circuit with access to Corvara, Colfosco and Arabba all very straight forward. Off piste routes are popular in the area, but you would be wise to go with a ski school class or employ a mountain guide for safety. The most famous off piste runs include Laste/Lusia, Sass Pordoi/Val Lasties, over at the Marmolada glacier and at Passo S. Pellegrino/Col Margherita.

The problem with this resort is that there is only one gondola up the mountain and one run back down which both get very crowded when the resort is busy and although when you get to the top of the mountain you can head out to the Sella Ronda and find some quiet runs, I wasn that impressed with the runs around Canazei. Canazei town is nice enough but there didn seem to be much nightlife outside of a couple of apres-ski bars and this was peak season.

Loved Canazei. For me most slopes were easily skiable except initially for the more challenging reds and on the Sella Ronda Clockwise - some aspects of the red runs approaching and around Arabba. Take cash with you to the mountain restaurants as not all accept cards. Check and double check the run routes before and during your run (not always clearly signed). Great run back to the north end of town but be careful of other skiers as it narrows greatly during the last 200 metres or so. Do go for the ski areas well away from the main top of station ski areas and you will be rewarded with fewer competitors for the slopes! Canazei has quite a lot of charm and good facilities. The accessible ski area is truly vast and has stunning scenery. The area is so well linked up with so many lifts taking you all over that you really can easily explore the whole Sella Ronda area - and further afield with the Super Dolomiti pass if you fancy it. Prices for food, booze and ski hire are very reasonable indeed.

There are loads of good runs mostly red but with some challenging bits. The wider area provides some really good skiing, especially in Piz Sella where there is an excellent outdoor bar! Skiing around Arabba was also very good and the Marmolada was brilliant! In fact I would say there weren’t any bad parts except a blue section where you had to cross country ski when travelling between Piz Sella and Canazei. If you are a competent skier you MUST do the highest peak at 3250m, the views are amazing!!! The après ski resembles an Austrian style where people stay out after a days skiing and go home early. We found the resort a little quiet although we did find a night club under
