Ski welt is a fantastic resort with over 90 lifts connecting you to many different areas so it gives you plenty of choice. It is suitable for all types of skiers with many blue, red and black slopes to choose from. There are also many bars/restaurants on the slopes. Would highly recommend and will return!

The pistes are perfect for beginners and intermediates and it's a great place to learn to board. Ellmau is part of the Skiwelt Wilder Kaiser, but it is not the best starting point. The town is lovely and picturesque - perfect for romantic evenings for two! Also, a very good resort for young families.

The ski area of Ellmau is linked up to the Ski Welt which is pretty big. We have only skied part of it so lots more to explore yet. Ellmau seems to attract return visitors year after year and we are returning again this winter. Ellmau is a very good choice of resort for beginners and intermediates. Probably OK for advanced too although they may need to venture further across the Ski Welt to find the black runs!! We aren't big on apres-ski so can't comment too much on that although I believe there are places in the village for those who do want to stay out drinking - not a big 'party scene' though, more family-orientated on the whole and not full of groups of people on the pull!

I can honestly say we love Ellmau! We'd tried several French resorts that specialize in families and kids but found them very regimented and unfriendly, especially towards the kids. The Austrian system is different, the ski schools take the kids all day, including lunch if you want, so they progress very quickly and enjoy whole days out on the Ski Welt, ranging miles from base.

Snow is generally plentiful in late January through to the half term dates. Booking at Christmas time and in March can be risky for snow, so check before booking. The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser - Brixental skiing area, at 280km, is varied enough and large enough to keep most intermediate skiers fully occupied for more tha
